We are completely dependent on breathing, yet most of us do it inefficiently. Over time, our respiratory muscles grow lazy and we tend to take quicker, shallow breaths.
But when we breathe deeply, we naturally slow down and feel calmer. Deep breathing maximizes the exchange of gases, allowing oxygen to reach the bloodstream fully and carbon dioxide to be released more effectively. Our lungs are capable of great expansion and contraction, and the greater this range, the deeper and more nourishing the breath becomes.
Pranayama breathing is the discipline of regulated breathing, helping you tap into and strengthen your natural life force. It provides significant physical benefits including improved lung capacity, lowered blood pressure, better sleep, and enhanced immune function, while also delivering powerful mental and emotional benefits such as reduced anxiety, increased focus, and greater emotional regulation. Regular practice activates the body's relaxation response, balances the nervous system, and creates a deeper sense of calm and mental clarity that extends throughout daily life.

The Goal: Bring awareness to the lower part of the breath and expand the abdomen fully.
The Move: Place your hands on your belly and keep the chest as still as possible.
The Breath: Inhale slowly and completely, allowing the abdomen to expand as the diaphragm moves downward. Hold the breath for a second or two. Exhale fully, drawing the navel back toward the spine. Pause briefly before inhaling again.
The Reps: Complete 6 repetitions before moving on.

The Goal: Bring awareness to the middle part of the breath and expand the ribcage.
The Move: Place your hands on the sides of your chest so you can feel the ribs moving. Keep the abdomen still.
The Breath: Inhale as the ribcage expands outward and upward. Hold briefly at the top. Exhale as the chest moves downward and inward. Pause briefly before inhaling again.
The Reps: Complete 6 repetitions before moving on.

The Goal: Bring awareness to the upper part of the breath and expand the upper chest.
The Move: Place your hands on your chest and gently engage your abdominal muscles to keep the lower body still.
The Breath: Inhale as the collarbones and shoulders rise gently toward the chin. Exhale as the shoulders and collarbones release back down.
The Reps: Complete 6 repetitions before moving on.

The Goal: Unite all three stages into one complete, continuous breath.
The Move: Rest your hands on your knees and allow the abdomen, ribcage, and upper chest to move together in sequence.
The Breath: Inhale by first expanding the abdomen, then the ribcage outward and upward, and finally lifting the collarbones and shoulders — all in one smooth, unbroken breath counting to 6. Exhale in reverse: lower the shoulders and collarbones, allow the chest to move downward and inward, and finally draw the navel back toward the spine until the breath is completely empty counting to 6.
The Reps: Complete 6 repetitions.
